Mediastinal Tumors


Abstract
This is a review of 28 cases of mediastinal tumors in aspect of histopathological types, age incidence, location and radiological findings.
All of cases were experienced in Na-tional Medical Center from May 1976 to August 1980. The results are
1. Among the 28 cases of histopathologically confirmed media-stinal tumor, thymoma (8 cases) was the most common, and the next was teratodermoid (7cases) and neurogenic tumor (6cases), lymphoid tumor (4 cases) in order of frequency.
2. In respect to location of tumor, the anterior mediastinum was the most frequent site (75%), and the next was the posterior mediastinum, and only one in the middle mediastinum. (21.4%)
3. The most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum was thymoma, and of the posterior mediastinum was neurogenic tumor.
4. In our series, there were 16 cases of benign tumors and 12 cases of malignant tumors.
